As educators it is worth knowing the various schools operating in the country's school system.
There are three major categories of schools in Nigeria according to their curriculum use:
The British Curriculum Schools
The American Curriculum Schools and,
The Nigerian Curriculum Schools
The British and American curriculum schools are the international schools. These schools are constantly increasing in number in the country. They are quite desirable by many, because they offer great perks in terms of salary packages and standard facilities.
These schools have several requirements for potential/prospective teachers. So in order to be qualified to teach in these schools, it is highly recommended that you have a sound and strong knowledge of either of the two curriculum.
Their requirements include:
A Bachelor Degree in Education and Teacher Certificate
A knowledge of either the British or American curriculum
The TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) or TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) certificate. There are numerous institutions that offer courses for TEFL and TESL, at the end of it, they issue the certificate.
Another certificate is the IGCSE, it is an English language curriculum offered to students to prepare them for International Baccalaureate.
Minimum of two years teaching experience
Strong English skills. . . and other handy skills like communication, class management. . .
The Nigerian curriculum schools. . . are there also.
There are good schools in the country that operate this curriculum.Their requiremnts are basically:

The Nigerian Curriculum schools tend to be lenient in their hiring, they employ individuals who do not have a degree in Education, and train them on the job.
